A Little Q&A on QR Codes

Filed under:

QR Code? What's that?

A QR Code is a relatively new type of barcode. QR stands for quick response, and it was first used in Japan, where it has been popular for years now.

What does a QR Code look like? A black and white mess. Well, not exactly, but close. A QR Code actually is comprised of many black squares arranged in different patterns on a white square background. Think of a blank crossword puzzle, and you're close to picturing a QR Code.

How are QR Codes used? Smart phones read them through their built-in cameras, much like scanning a barcode. QR Codes contain more information, however, and have more flexible uses. Besides displaying text to a smart phone user, they also have the ability to link out to websites, providing many benefits to marketers.
